Headline:
Cold with wintry showers.

Today:
A cold day with wintry showers, these falling mostly as snow, giving some slight accumulations over low ground and moderate falls on hills. Sleet more likely on the Moray coast. Icy stretches on any untreated roads. Brisk northwest winds.

Tonight:
The wintry showers will continue overnight, some of them heavy, giving further accumulations of snow with blizzards on the mountains. Fresh to strong northwest winds falling light inland. Widespread frost.

Saturday:
Remaining very cold with snow showers but these becoming lighter and more isolated during the day. Northwest winds, light to moderate inland, strong for a time on the coasts.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:
Rain, preceded by snow, spreading across all parts during Sunday morning. Clearer weather with showers following. Scattered showers on Monday and Tuesday, these wintry on hills. Windy at times.

Dunnet Bay is a three mile sandy beach facing north west, and located about 5 miles east of Thurso. There are sand bar breaks along its length and a right hand break along the reefs at the northern end.
